Riding Out the Storm

Imagine the scene: a small fishing boat tossed like a bottle in the churning waves. The fishermen fear they will be swamped at any minute. Do you blame them for being afraid? And yet Jesus asks them, "Where is your faith?"

This is probably not the question that disciples would have expected in the middle of a terrifying storm. But Jesus had a point to prove. It was all about where the disciples were looking at the waves instead of Jesus.

Your Father wants you to trust Him in the midst of the tempest, when it seems that the hurricane will sweep your home out to sea and when the gale is about to flood your tiny boat.

When storms begin to test your strength, do not be ashamed of being afraid. Jesus' disciples were afraid, and they had Jesus with them in the boat! Learn from them and take a moment to ask yourself, "Where is my faith?" Have you put your faith in your own abilities or in another person, so that suddenly it seems shaky and on the verge of collapse? Relax! You can ride out the storm. You have Jesus in your boat.

Today, remember that when storms blow into your life, your Father, who has power over wind and waves, will protect you. Have faith. Your Father is with you in the storm. He will bring calm.

This is from quiet reflections of Hope page 140.

'Then he got up and ordered the wind and the waves to stop. The wind stopped, and the sea became calm. He asked them, "where is your faith?"'
Luke 8:24-25
